Individual posters for each of the five main actors of “The Sound of a Flower” was released Wednesday.

Ryu Seung-ryong, Bae Suzy, Song Sae-byeok, Lee Dong-hui and Ahn Jae-hong are each portrayed wearing their period costumes next to a line from the movie.

Ryu’s line is directed at the female lead and mentee Jin Chae-sun, “Be both Simcheong and Chunhyang.” He refers to the female protagonists of old Korean folktales, whose filial piety and lover’s fidelity are eulogized in Korean narrative songs called “pansori.”

Suzy’s line is simple, “This girl wants to sing pansori.” Her character, a real figure from history, is the female pioneer Jin Chae-sun who defied the 1860s’ taboo of women singing in the public.

Song’s line says, “If her cover is blown she will have to give her life.” Song plays Chae-sun’s pansori instructor in the movie. His caring character looks out for Chae-sun’s safety and well-being, as she illegally masquerades as a man in order to sing pansori.

“The Sound of a Flower” opens on Nov. 5 in Korea.
