K-pop singer and television personality Ok Taec-yeon has been cast in the upcoming political TV drama “Assembly.”Ok will play aspiring police officer Kim Gyu-hwan, who studies at the library to pass his entrance exams by day and works as an official’s chauffeur by night, according to PR company Place.The screenwriter Jung Hyun-min -- formerly a National Assembly aide -- previously wrote hit period TV drama “Jeong Do-jeon” last year, about the politics that founded the early Joseon dynasty.“Personally, I really enjoyed watching ‘Jeong Do-jeon’ and I really wanted to act in a project by the screenwriter of that capability,” said Ok. “That opportunity has come and I want to undertake the challenge.”Ok, 26, also said that his character “reflects those in their 20s with their worries and pains.”Costar Jang Hyun-sung will play politician Baek Do-hyeon, who comes from an elite royal Korean lineage.“I am looking forward to working with a good screenwriter and director, as well as good costars,” said Jang. “Even though it’s completely different from my most recent drama, I will do my best to reach out to viewers with a realistic and passionate character portrayal.”Jang previously starred in the recent TV dark comedy “Heard It through the Grapevine.”Other confirmed cast members are Jung Jae-young, Song Yun-ah and Kim Seo-hyeong.“Assembly” follows the career of welder-turned-National Assembly politician Jin Sang-pil.
